How to gain access to RDRD supports?

Support Services

  • House meeting- Once a month the centre facilitates a meeting we call the House meeting. All participants on the day programme and the centre staff are in attendance. The participants elect someone in their group to represent them on any issues that need to be discussed. No names are raised only issues. The manager of the centre is present at all house meetings to hear any concerns or ideas people have. Some ideas where possible are put into actions that dont require board of management approval. In the case that proposals need board approval the manager informs the meeting when information can be provided back.

  • The wexford retreat house- The Ringsend & District Response to drugs with the help of the Dublin Port Company purchased a house in Wexford in 2008. The house sleeps 14 people. It is another resource that is put to great use. The house has provided for many particularly in crisis intervention or just the need to get away. Groups, staff, services and families have accessed the house and we have received positive feedback.

  • Christmas Day- This can be a very lonely and challenging time for many people struggling with addiction. We open on Christmas Day and provide a lunch and activities for those and their families that wish to participate.

  • Annual Event- Each year we hold our annual event which welcomes all who are associated with the centre to celebrate the achievments of our clients.

Support Services

Depending on your care plan or circumstances there are a number of services you can avail of in the centre. The centre provides light lunch every day for the service users. We also offer shower room and washing /drying amenities. The service users can also enjoy relaxing in our garden which also houses a variety of birds, chickens and also the use of our BBQ. The building is Wi-Fi ready and can also offer the use of karaoke and pottery. The Centre can provide treatment and counselling rooms.

  • Addict support group- The support groups have proven very effective and have become a very important factor to the member's recovery. The groups run weekly and are facilitated by a member of staff.

  • One to one Support- The one to one support is built into the programme. It provides you with an opportunity to discuss and explore issues that are not appropriate for a group setting. This also ensures open access support for those who have moved onto fulltime employment.

  • Day programme- The Day programme is funded by FAS and provides 20 hours structure. There is a waiting list for this programme. The Key worker will let you know if you fit the special nine point criteria and if the programme is best suited to your individual needs.

  • Womens support group- The support groups have proven very effective and have become a very important factor to the member's recovery. This is one specific to women. The groups run weekly and are facilitated by a member of staff.

  • Weekend activities- These are a key feature in the service. The activities, weekends away and events planned by staff and participants have created a good strong trusting relationship. Our experience of taking participants out of their usual environment has been very positive.Outdoor pursuits are planned each week.

  • Prison and Hospital Visits-Clients incarcerated or in hospital have an opportunity to continue to seek supports to ensure consistency.

  • Therapeutic Holistic programme- The programmes provided are things such as Reiki, massage, reflexology, anger management, personal development, health issues and so on all play a vital role in your recovery. You can also access qualified staff in acupuncture which has proven to help in withdrawals experienced by Poly drug use.

  • Family support group- Due to the strong emphasis that RDRD put on family supports this group has played a key role in the clients care plan. Many of the clients choosing to work on a care plan opted for family involvement which in turn creates a strong overall support system.

  • Care plan/Follow up & Outreach- This is an essential part of the project. We have been able to promptly intervene in a crisis, particularly if the person has not been in attendance for some time. In cases of relapse and experiencing shame and guilt the outreach service has been most effective in encouraging the young person back into the services.

  • Counselling Service- This service is accessed by participants on the project and clients from the local drug clinic. RDRD contract hours to various counselors and provides a dedicated room for this service. This is particularly beneficial for specific cases that require specialized care.

  • Drug awareness programme- This course is run twice a year  for a period of six weeks. It has proven to be extremely effective in raising profile in the community. It has also provided many of our programmes with excellent volunteers. It is open to the members of the community and services in the area wishing to enhance their skills and knowledge of the drug issue.

  • The Spellman Bus- The project has a 14 seat bus that is also used by a large number of groups and services in the community.
